What your toilet brush actually costs, once you count honestly

It wasn't the money that got me. It was the holder. I picked it up to give it a clean and saw what was sitting in the bottom of it. Water that had been there for weeks. In a room I thought of as clean.

A brush you throw away instead of putting away doesn't have that problem. The head goes in the bin the moment you finish. Nothing is left standing anywhere.

I had never once thought about what a toilet brush costs. Five dollars at the supermarket, it stands next to the toilet, done. That is how you count when you only count the purchase.

Then I started counting honestly. Not the price of the brush. The cost of it. And that is where it gets uncomfortable.

The sum nobody does

A classic brush needs cleaner. It needs replacing every few months, because the bristles mat together and stop being something you want near you. And it needs a holder, which is the part with the dirty water in it.
